Abstract: At times I've had to move a site collection from one database to another for the sake of saving space. Here is how I did it...

If you get the help for the mergecontentdbs operation you see three options. We want to use the 3rd one - Read from file. We want to run the stsadm.exe -o enumsites command again and pipe it into a XML file like so: stsadm.exe -o enumsites -url http://Developer > mysites.xml. Before running the mergecontentdb command, modify the XML file to only list the site you want to migrate.

Now, run the following script: stsadm.exe -o mergecontentdbs -url http://Developer/sites/mysite -sourcedatabase WSS_Content_Main -destinationdatabase WS_Content_Test -operation 3 -filename mysites.xml

Thats it! Run a IISRESET and you're good to go!
